What began as a somewhat rocky launch has now turned into one of the gaming industry biggest success stories of the year. After facing mixed reactions during its initial release, Pearl Abyss’ open-world RPG Crimson Desert has officially surpassed 4 million copies sold worldwide in less than two weeks. The milestone was announced directly by Pearl Abyss through its official X account, where the company thanked players around the world for their continued support since launch.

Although Crimson Desert initially received criticism over its controls and certain gameplay design issues, the game quickly recovered thanks to fast updates and improvements released by the developers. On launch day alone, the title reportedly surpassed 2 million copies sold before climbing to 3 million just days later.According to international gaming reports, player sentiment became increasingly positive after several major patches improved the overall gameplay experience. User reviews on Steam also rose from “Mixed” to “Very Positive,” with many players praising the game’s massive open world and cinematic action sequences.

The achievement is considered especially impressive as Crimson Desert marks Pearl Abyss’ biggest single player project to date. The South Korean studio was previously best known for its MMORPG title Black Desert Online.Beyond sales performance, the game has also delivered a major financial boost for the company. Industry reports suggest that the strong launch of Crimson Desert helped Pearl Abyss record one of the highest quarterly revenues in the company history with a large portion of the earnings coming from international markets outside South Korea.

The game’s momentum also shows no signs of slowing down. Following the 4 million milestone, newer reports indicate that Crimson Desert has already moved closer to and eventually surpassed 5 million copies sold globally. With growing community support alongside future DLC plans and continued updates, Crimson Desert is now widely seen as one of the strongest contenders to become one of 2026 biggest gaming successes.
