Google has officially introduced the Fitbit Air, a new health tracking device that comes with a smaller, lighter, and screenless design. The device appears to be Google’s latest attempt at offering a simpler health monitoring experience without the distractions commonly found on traditional smartwatches.
The Fitbit Air features a minimalist design similar to fitness bands such as Whoop. According to Google, it is the lightest Fitbit device ever produced and is designed to be comfortable enough for all-day wear. The absence of a display also allows users to focus more on their health data without constantly checking notifications or screens.
Despite its simple appearance, the Fitbit Air still supports various advanced health tracking features including 24-hour heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, body temperature sensing, HRV analysis, and improved sleep monitoring. Google has also included irregular heart rhythm notifications that can help detect early signs of AFib.
For fitness tracking, the Fitbit Air is capable of automatically detecting activities such as walking, running, and cycling. All health and fitness data are synced to the new Google Health application, which is expected to gradually replace the existing Fitbit app. The platform also integrates Gemini AI technology to provide users with more personalized health insights and workout recommendations.
In terms of battery life, the Fitbit Air is claimed to last up to seven days on a single charge. It also supports fast charging, where a five-minute charge can provide enough power for roughly a full day of use. Additionally, the device comes with 5ATM water resistance for daily usage and workout activities.
The Fitbit Air is priced at around $99 (~RM470) and is available with several strap options, including a special edition developed in collaboration with NBA player Stephen Curry. Google is also offering a free three-month Google Health Premium subscription for early buyers.
