AI Safety Guidelines to Launch in July 2026, Says NACSA | Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR – The development of Malaysia’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Guidelines is currently in its final phase and is expected to be officially launched this July as part of efforts to strengthen the nation digital security amid the rapid advancement of AI technology.Chief Executive Officer of the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), Ir. Dr. Megat Zuhairy Megat Tajuddin, said the guidelines would serve as a key reference for government agencies, organizations and parties utilizing AI technology in their daily operations.

According to him, the initiative is crucial to ensure AI is used safely and ethically while helping to curb increasingly sophisticated cyber fraud threats, including AI-generated fake content or “deepfakes.” He said this during a press conference held in conjunction with the Google APAC Online Safety Dialogue 2026 in the capital today.

He added that NACSA is also collaborating with several global technology companies to develop solutions capable of identifying AI-generated content.“For example, there are technologies capable of determining whether a video or image was generated by AI or otherwise. Collaboration with the private sector is important to ensure the country digital space remains secure,” he said.

Meanwhile, the guidelines will focus on two main aspects: AI usage and AI education. From the usage perspective, the guidelines emphasize the importance of ensuring sensitive information is not entered into AI platforms that may expose users to data leakage risks. Users are also reminded not to rely entirely on AI-generated outputs without proper verification and review.

NACSA stated that the development of the guidelines involved multiple research processes, discussions and consultations with various related agencies to ensure they remain relevant to current needs and future technological challenges. The initiative is seen as aligned with the government commitment to strengthening the national cybersecurity ecosystem while ensuring AI technology is utilized responsibly for the benefit of the people and the country.Reported from RTM…
